title: "Morbid Folk-Fetish Witching Hour Bat Bodice"
materials: leather, recycled rubber inner tubes, ink on paper paintings for the decoupage (hate that word)
date of work: 2007
I've finally started to make bat bras again. Actual bat shape pattern is over 10 years old. This is a halter style with a double layered construction...butylene rubber inner tube layer underneath (for shape. stability and easy cleaning) covered with a garment leather shell whip-stitched around the edges and cross stitched front seams The Halloween leaves are wet molded veggie leather with tooled veins painted in acrylics with decoupaged vignettes. The silhouettes of witches, cats, bats and moons are all hand painted in archival ink and the leaves are protected by a clear matte sealer. They are tied on with black satin ribbon. The stitchery attaching the black stainless steel rings to the bra is patterned after planetary seals. (which I should really photograph close up)
